Some things just look delicate and pretty and often we'd think that they're too hard to ever create ourselves... I decided to decorate eggshells and give them as presents to my friends and family. I dug up all my tester pots from Farrow and Ball and started painting! (After poking holes on the top and bottom of eggs, blowing out the insides until I turned blue and making numerous scrambled eggs and omelettes! Mother was NOT please)
The F&B had an eggshell finish which has a lovely matt feel and the colours were so bright! Much brighter then I would have got from dying the eggs... I did about two coats to ensure an even finish.
Here is the first complete eggshell I did.... To attach the ribbon, I used soft wire, threaded a tiny bead to the middle, bent it and threaded a pearl bead to hold at the bottom of the shell... then poked it through the eggshell (lots of patience is required for that bit!) and twisted the wire around the ribbon.
To mix the colours, I added liquid watercolour into the F&B paints and just painted a simple 'blossom' design on some of the shells... The look so sweet in an egg box!
Here are the shells after I threaded the wires through... As they were presents, I wrote their names on the bottom for a more personal touch.
I used quite dull colours for the ribbon so they didn't detract attention from the actual shells... and it also enables you to hang them from things (if you wanted!)
And it's as easy as that!! I went for quite simple designs but you really could show off your creativity! They're so pretty and my friends were delighted with their hand painted eggshells!
